During the metal coating of plastics which are to be plated in sequence with copper, nickel and chromium, it has been possible to minimise material losses through the modification of process and plant technologies, the optimisation of volume flows and various measures for the direction of the material flow concerned. Results obtained are transferable to other types of operation.
Plating ABS-plastics with copper, nickel and chrome the implementation of materials and water circuits will minimize material losses and cost reductions can be achieved.
Procedure and results:
- At the etching process with a chrome oxide/sulphuric acid (CrO3/H2SO4) solution and the chrome plating process material and water circuits were introduced using evaporators and regenerating systems to recycle about 90% of the drag out to reduce both the demand of material input (chemicals, water) and output (waste water, slurry).
- The new process technology was successfully tested in the plant at production conditions, and the cost reduction were evaluated.
