Biological methods for the regeneration of degreasing solutions have already been used in the galvanising industry, but to date not in the electroplating industry.
This subproject chose two methods, each with an externally located bioreactor, to keep the oil concentration in the preliminary degreasing process at an evenly low level. These were Bioclean and a membrane reactor method.
- By comparison of different biodegradation procedures to regenerate degreasing solutions we found that a bio-regeneration system could act as a reasonable alternative to conventional degreasing processes.
- Caused from the biological effect the rate of grease in the cleaning tank could be kept at a low constant level resulting in a clearly decrease of solvent contamination. Therefore we could widely extend the lifetime of the cleaning system as well as we could reduce the rinse criterion which enabled us to spent a rinsing vat and to change our static pickling process into a "multiple counter flow pickling system" after adding a former rinse tank which became redundant.
- In consequence of this change-over we could significantly improve both, the pickling quality and the acid utilization degree of the pickling process versus the initial state.
